Paediatric Plastic Surgeon at Evelina London Children's Hospital
Your child has a birthmark, a lump or ears that stick out, and someone has said the words Evelina London. You look it up and find a children's hospital rated Outstanding. Miss Jana Torres-Grau is a paediatric plastic surgeon on that team, and you can see her here privately.
You can see Miss Torres-Grau privately at Evelina London, in the hospital where she works every week.
A consultation doesn't commit you to treatment.
Evelina London plastic surgery, with Miss Torres-Grau on the team
Evelina London plastic surgery is one of the largest children's services of its kind, with more than 1,000 operations a year. Miss Jana Torres-Grau is a consultant on that team. She sees private patients at Evelina London Children's Hospital, Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7EH, in English or Spanish.
I work at Evelina London every week as a consultant, so I know it from the inside: the anaesthetists, the nurses, the day surgery unit and what happens to a child from the moment they arrive. That is why I am glad to see private patients here as well. Whichever route a family takes, it is the same hospital, the same team and the same care.
Miss Jana Torres-Grau
The hospital is part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and sits on the St Thomas' site, across the river from Parliament.
Children's plastic surgery at Evelina London, from birthmarks to scars
Every treatment Miss Torres-Grau offers is available at Evelina London, and each one starts with an assessment in clinic.
Seen in outpatients
Every child is assessed in clinic first. Small moles, cysts and lumps in older children can sometimes be removed there under local anaesthetic.
Treated in day surgery
Ear correction, hand surgery, laser treatment for birthmarks and gynaecomastia surgery take place in the Children's Day Surgery Unit, usually with a general anaesthetic.
Laser and birthmark treatment has its own page, with the questions parents ask most.
The Evelina team also supports the major trauma centre at King's College Hospital, so children's injuries are part of its daily work. How injuries are repaired is explained on the injury page.
Rated Outstanding by the CQC since its first inspection in 2015
The Care Quality Commission rated Evelina London Children's Hospital Outstanding at its first inspection in 2015, and the hospital still holds that rating. In March 2026 inspectors rated its children's emergency department Outstanding again. An independent regulator has checked the hospital and passed it at the highest level.
Behind every operation there are paediatric anaesthetists, children's nurses and 19 intensive care beds in the same building. Miss Torres-Grau works inside that system every week, and a private appointment with her runs to the same standards.
Children's day surgery in a unit built for it, home in three to four hours
Most children's surgery here happens in the Children's Day Surgery Unit. It has two theatres built for short operations. The checks, the operation, recovery and going home all happen in the same place.
Families usually spend three to four hours in the unit. A parent stays with the child until they are asleep and is there when they wake. If an operation needs a longer stay, the children's wards and intensive care are in the same building.
Do I need a referral to see a paediatric plastic surgeon privately at Evelina?
No. You can book a private consultation with Miss Torres-Grau at Evelina London directly, with or without a GP letter.
Evelina London is also Miss Torres-Grau's main NHS hospital, so she knows the building, the anaesthetists and the nurses from the inside.

Ten minutes' walk from Westminster or Lambeth North station
The hospital is about ten minutes' walk from Westminster station, on the District, Circle and Jubilee lines, and from Lambeth North on the Bakerloo line. Waterloo is about fifteen minutes on foot. The entrance is on Lambeth Palace Road, inside the St Thomas' Hospital site.
The hospital sits in the congestion charge zone and parking in the St Thomas' car park is limited, so public transport is the easier choice with a child.

Clear answers before you book
Open any question to read more about private paediatric plastic surgery at Evelina London.
Can I book a private appointment with her at Evelina London?
Yes. Private children's care here is arranged through the hospital's private service, and you can ask for Miss Torres-Grau by name. Contact the practice and the appointment is set up for you.
Should we choose Evelina London or The Portland?
Both are Miss Torres-Grau's private clinics, and she gives the same care at each. Say which is easier for you to reach, or ask her and she will suggest the one that suits your child.
Will she see my child herself?
Yes. At a private consultation Miss Torres-Grau takes the history, examines your child and explains the options herself. If surgery follows, she carries it out.
Does she treat port wine stains with laser at Evelina?
Yes. Pulsed dye laser treatment for port wine stains is carried out in the day surgery unit, and babies and young children usually have it under a general anaesthetic. Several sessions are often needed, and she will say how many she expects at the first visit.
What does a private consultation cost?
The fee is published on the fees page, so you know it before you book. Surgery is quoted after the consultation, because it depends on the procedure and the anaesthetic. Consultation and treatment fees are one click away.
How a day surgery visit at Evelina runs, start to finish
-
01Step one
Arrival and checks
You arrive at the time on your letter. A nurse checks your child's weight and health, and Miss Torres-Grau confirms the plan with you, including whether your child will be awake or asleep for the procedure.
-
02Step two
The procedure
Some smaller procedures are done awake, with a local anaesthetic to numb the area and a parent beside your child. For others, a paediatric anaesthetist puts your child to sleep with a parent there until they are asleep, and the operation takes place in one of the unit's two theatres.
-
03Step three
Recovery
After a general anaesthetic your child wakes in the unit's recovery area with you there. After a local anaesthetic there is a short rest while the nurses check the area. Either way, something to eat and drink follows once they are ready.
-
04Step four
Going home
Most families leave three to four hours after arriving, with written aftercare and a follow-up date. Visits for a procedure done awake are usually shorter.
