What to expect
A setting designed around children
Whether your child is treated at Evelina London or The Portland Hospital, the care is built around children, from the wards to the teams who look after them.
Specialist children's teams
Both hospitals have children's nurses and paediatric anaesthetists who are trained to care for young patients. Play specialists help your child feel calm before and after their procedure.
Intensive care on site
Both hospitals have a paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and high dependency care within the building. If your child ever needs extra care, specialist help is close at hand.
Many specialties in one place
Both hospitals bring together a wide range of children's specialists. If your child needs advice from another team, such as dermatology or ENT, those experts work in the same hospital.
Designed to feel welcoming
Both hospitals have play areas and a sensory room to help children relax. One parent or carer can usually stay overnight with their child.
Regulated and inspected
Both hospitals are registered with and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC is the independent body that checks health care in England is safe and of good quality.
Easy to reach
Evelina London is on Westminster Bridge Road, SE1, a short walk from Waterloo and Westminster stations. The Portland Hospital is on Great Portland Street, W1W, close to Great Portland Street and Regent's Park stations.
Shorter stays
Children's Day Surgery Unit
Many of Miss Torres-Grau's procedures take place in Evelina London's Children's Day Surgery Unit, opened by the Princess of Wales and purpose-built for shorter procedures that do not require an overnight stay.
The unit has two dedicated operating theatres and a comfortable family lounge. Admission, surgery, recovery and discharge all take place in the same unit on the same day.

For most procedures
Home the same day
For the majority of plastic surgery procedures, including ear correction, mole and lump removal, tongue tie, and scar treatment, children are admitted, treated and discharged on the same day. This means less disruption for your family and a faster return to normal life for your child.
Miss Torres-Grau will confirm at your consultation whether your child's procedure will be a day case or whether an overnight stay is needed.
